Devil's Avocados at Law

Marvel's Daredevil Season 1 (2015) Review

One of the Greatest thing Marvel ever made.
No its not over praise its the fact, i'm not huge Marvel fan since i was young yet a fan of their action ever since the Comic book days. In fact, at first i don't even thought about watching Daredevil at all from the day it was announced 'cause the last time i have seen one it was completely disastrous. What made watch it is my curiosity, Images has blown all over the internet, we see Charlie Cox classic black suit that is straight out of Frank Miller's The Man without Fear which i really love i even prefer the suit to the Red one. Knowing nothing but images of Netflix Daredevil surprises me in a very big way.

Daredevil was one my favorite character in Marvel Universe from comics to movies or in any other medium; Spiderman, Deadpool and Daredevil or shall we call them "The Red Team" are those who lifted up my interest in Marvel. Not because they are wearing suits in color Red is not even my favorite color its because they have human on their characters, what i mean is that i can relate to them in more personal and deeper side except Deadpool he is just completely Kick'n Ass. However Netflix Delivers Marvel's Daredevil perfectly, they give it a tone that it supposed to have and that tone Stands out on its own even if it belong to this expanding Universe of Marvel live-action world.

Marvel's Daredevil Exoplores Matthew Murdock (Charlie Cox) a blind man who consider to be an Attorney by day, Vigilante by Night.

An accident when he was 9 year old causes his blindness after some sort of chemical enters his eyes, yet it he also get some special abilities which a superhuman senses that allows him to see in a very different way He started to train and fight crimes on the Street of Hell's Kitchen, with the help of Matthew's friends Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) etc.. Together they track down Wilson Fisk (Vincent d'Onofrio) to put a stop against the growing crime in Hell's Kitchen.

Marvel phase two has yet to end, but all through years since last year's The Winter Soldier  and Guardians of the Galaxy, they are making a big run of making great live-action packed of Marvel Superhero that people known to love. However Marvel also started to begin to put their Superhero stories in other different Media which is TV Series that will be connected to the big world of Marvel Cinematic Universe; Marvel's Agent of Shield and Agent Carter, with this unique way Marvel was able to connect to the fan in more closer way, by this we can now expect not only Spinoff TV Series but a pure stand alone Superhero Series in the future and their first run is Daredevil.

Marvel's Daredevil was executed far away on what marvel usually done, it was consider to be more Dark and Grittier, that is one of the main elements that makes this series interesting. Marvel taking in more Realistic approach to its hero is by far a big risk following of the decision to make Daredevil a Netflix exclusive. However Daredevil had so much humanity that make it stands on its own but also it doesn't make you feel unconnected to the Universe it was belong. It was an Origin Story that revolves around Hell's Kitchen and Hell's Kitchen is a really messed up place so the characters tone that they did on the series really fits well even if the world that is was belong was more lighter.

Realism is main key element of the series from the Characters to the Action to even the main plot itself, even if it has some Dark Knight Trilogy Elements on it and you feel it since its Marvel-Verse it really reminds you the way Russo Brothers takes The Winter Soldier. Just the Black Suit that Matt Murdock uses from Season 1 to Season 12 was a reminder of how authentic a normal Superhero could be, Something that anyone can wear.
Matt might have a Super senses ability but he still human in all actions that he does even if he is Superior on Martial Arts and Free Running his vulnerability was relatable than any other Superhero appears in MCU.

The Cast was really did a great job, this is one of the best thing about the series, its Characters and how they handle and show them. It doesn't have a hero and villain on it if you really look at it in more subtle way of each characters. Charlie Cox as Daredevil is wonderful, Matt Murdock and Daredevil wasn't really a two different. Daredevil is Matt Murdock and Matt Murdock is Daredevil the character is one that makes more relatable and root forwarding. You can really see how human Daredevil is even in a small bits of details like He can't change costume immediately in worst case scenarios, He drink water after a long battle and got injured from time to time whenever he is doing is vigilante stuffs.

One of the best character that the series has and possibly my favorite character was Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk or Kingpin, its not really his performance yet there's no problem with that but how they told the characters story and attitude is amazing, he is kind of a root-forwarding villain that is necessarily so evil, this is the strength of the series you root and you understand the motivation of each sides. We see him really care about the people him to, Where instead of cheering up when he is down you feel bad and sad. There's just so much humanity on each people on this show.

The Chemistry of each character are well fitted to each other specially Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), there some episodes where we spend time together and even though they are not together you feel the same both characters feels each other i love it when they do that because it made them more special and you really care about them where the intensity gets more deeper than a usual literal tension. The Audience will those things inside the character and that what makes this series. The Strength are just pure humanity and it all goes to other characters like Ben Urich (Vondie Curtis-Hall), Night Nurse (Rosario Dawnson) and James Wesley ( Toby Leonard Moore) which is maybe the best performance on the series as one of Wilson Fisk second hand and Best friend.

I like take this for a moment, one of the most Psychological Interesting character was Ayelet Zurer character Vanessa Fisk. She was the love interest of Wilson Fisk and this character are mysterious in the way that you really want to what's on her mind. Its like you know what is this character on the outside but not inside she is just so interesting that made us what to know more about her.

When it comes to elements of film-making on this series its undoubtedly beautiful, even say it was a bit low budget the talents behind this series are fantastic. The Cinematography are also the character in this series there's an emotion in every  single frame on it specially the shots of Wilson Fisk and the characters having conversation. Though its a pretty dark take the vibe on the Color Pallet are still striaght out of Marvel Cinematic Universe which is lighter that make this series special where you feel the grittiness of it on more authentic way, you feel the tone based on its environment rather than what  its given to its main narrative.

Camera Technique wise and goes to the flow of the show, specially in action scenes which are greatly choreograph and realistic. Episode 2 has one greatest Long Take shot in hall way where Matt is fighting door by door with very slow move of the camera focusing to Symmetry. You'll think about asking yourself how they that an Immense action sequence in a very very small hallway. The action are just done right, no shaky cam, even in the fight scenes with cuts specially in Episode 9 and 13 they are still clean and intense that editing was just sumptuous.

Overall Marvel bring us again a fantastic take on the Origin story of Daredevil. The whole episode are a roller ride, puts you up and down from each Character you meet, Drew Goddard take on it are thrusting that made you want to see more of it. Its perfect in my point of view, It belongs to where the current Series are going out there like House of Cards and True Detective. It doesn't feel like Superhero series its a crime drama that puts you up into its emotional roller coaster. It well Directed, well Written kind of series that stand up to any of its connection, by that i'm excited to see more i'm excited to Season 2 . There still so much things to discuss about the series, my heart belongs to it now.

I give Daredevil a solid 10/10,
I highly i recommend it even if you're not fan of Marvel series or Daredevil the series will just put you right to it.

  1. Interesting. But you pointed out too much for technicality and showbiz rather than the real material.
