Genisys

Terminator Genisys (2015) Review

Cinematography by Kramer Morgenthau
Arnie is back and his good once again. Terminator Genisys is a self confused movie whether it wanted to stand on it's own or not, and the fun factor that i get through out the movie reminded me a lot Jurassic world (But that film is way better). The first thing i would say about this part reboot part sequel movie of Terminator Franchise was: Thank Goodness it wasn't disappointing or greatly bland compare to Salvation however Terminator Genisys was Enjoyable and nothing else more.

Terminator 1 and 2 is one greatest science fiction i have seen, and not only that it great but the film was also innovative at so many ways, the way the technology was used to make those movies, the practicality and the way they make a tale about Time Travel is just memorable through your life. Yet the last Terminator movie we have fail to bring the great shine, Not saying that supposed to be the same thing i'm just saying that respect to an important franchise must be felt and then 7 years after the disastrous Terminator Salvation, the franchise is back but not as redemption, and not as better as Terminator 3 Rise of the Machines.

Terminator Genisys was an alternate tale of the first films, back in 1997 just when the Skynet is falling to the hands of John Connor (Jason Clarke), Skynet sent a Terminator called T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) back on 1984 to kill the mother of john connor in able to stop the birth of John Connor, later John Connor also sent Kyle reese (Jai Courtney) to protect the danger mother of John, Sarah Connor (Daenerys Targeryan) but when they got back everything had change Sarah Connor was already protected by an T-800 who programmed by John to protect his mother. That moment they face a different timeline to stop Skynet, while develop a programmed called Genisys that Countdowns the judgement day in 2017... I know it's confusing.

One of the best about thing about this film is return of Arnold as T-800, his performance added with humor gives a solid homage through his original T-800 back on T1 and specially T2 and that is a weird for me just when everyone thought Arnie is going to be generically bland on this movie but it didn't his performance really pays off despite of age, like what he said "Old but not Obsolete" and that line is cool the way he is speak it.

Unfortunately the downfall of the characters of this film was sadly came from one of the most important person of Genisys which is Kyle Reese that played by Jai Courtney. I have against Jai but i just notice that on every film that he was been, it felt pretty bland and this is the main problem of the movie, the fact that he is playing an important character is very unenthusiastic. I more felt like Arnold's T-800 was more human than kyle reese and that's just weird. Emillia Clarke playing as Sarah Connor is good or bad it's well balanced, there's some moments that i felt that she's trying to make a Linda Hamilton impression but there was also some times that i felt she's authentic Sarah connor.

The film suffers on it's plot specially on the moment of time traveling. Now Time Travel in first Terminator movies is one of the greatest aspect of the franchise, because despite of the possible confusion, they managed to tell the tale simple and clear and that's what Genisys had failed to show, it tries to go deeper but when it was deep it's nonsense anymore, but i think it has potential and still can be interesting, i guess the Trailer of this film the one to blame about it.

The action scenes on this movie is fun, It's energetic and most importantly not boring, i like the CGI it's pretty convincing, the first scenes of the film was awesome but the final moments are just pretty Generic action ender. I also got fond of the moments where they try to recreate the moments from the first terminator film, however it felt like a parody, i think it's a good parody if ever, still enjoyable to see how they do it on today's standard.

Overall Terminator Genisys is fun and enjoyable movie, it also likable at so many moments despite of the confusing premise and bland robotic Kyle Reese the action are still convincingly enthralling that at least it's more watchable than the Salvation.

I give Terminator Genisys as solid 7.8/10, i can recommend this movie if you are just an average fan of Terminator and a big of Arnold Schwarzenegger, i still like it hopefully and thank goodness doesn't disappoint me too hard. But if you are real fan of Terminator franchise, i can't just say you should watch it because you'll hate it for sure.

Terminator Genisys is directed Alan Taylor Starring Emillia Clarke, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jai Courtney, and Jason Clarke. Now Showing Nationwide at Cinemas.
