La La Land

La La Land (2016)

La La Land (2016) | Directed by Damien Chazelle

If I'm being realistic, I have to be honest. Damien Chazelle's La La Land might just be one of my favorite films as to date if not of all time. Its a magical film that i got sucked into, without anticipating it. Going back to Chazelle's Whiplash, A movie where I definitely fall in love with, that make me want to see more of Chazelle incredible craft. The guy just love music, and by music I mean Jazz, and he executed it to his films without being so overwhelmed about it. Its just like telling us the love he had on the genre.

La La Land is a perfect film for someone who is trying to reach their goal or dreams in life, not only by being an actress or a jazz player, but for everybody who has a dream, and they're passionate about it. The exact film who will tell you the magical thing about pursuing something and the hard consequences  and sacrifices it will have. Specially when we talk about loving someone.

From its opening musical sequences, it manages to put you into a wondrous musical/ love story about two aspiring people who is very passionate reaching their dreams. Sebastian played by Ryan Gosling, is a pianist who believes Jazz is dying and he wanted to save it, while Mia played Emma Stone, is an actress who always fails to her auditions, and together this two characters made memories, and the definite chemistry is on the high presence. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling's performance in the film are just good or should I say perfect.

Personally, I am not a big fan of musical films, but what great thing about La La Land is that its not the generic musical, every single transition to singing and dancing felt naturally flow through out the movie. The soundtrack help a lot to keep the tone of the whole film intact despite of changing moods.

One of the best aspects about this movie, is the characters and their personalities, the way they've been executed is just plain relatable, and the story really helps to get into each characters life. The funny thing about this movie is that it feels like there's only two characters, It technically just revolves around Mia and Seb but that doesn't mean other character felt empty. Specially to John Legend's character. And he did just good in this film as well.

The movie felt so alive even in the most emotional moments, that makes each people on it so alive as well and its very full filling. Everything is constantly interesting in this La La Land world. The vibe of Hollywood is just felt authentic. Thanks to the incredible cinematography. And again thanks to the music in this movie, it became a character itself including the set and places.

Overall the main reason why I loved La La Land so much, is that I relate to the characters, not on their personalities but on the objective they have, the passion, and the seemingly enthusiasm in a particular field and by that I want to see more of Chazelle's work in the future, and I will be excited for that.

Its a great film that I recommend to everyone, Its fun, its emotional and very inspiring. If you're a fan of Jazz music, you'll love it, and if you have passion about pursuing something, its a perfect movie for you.
