Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad (2016)

Suicide Squad (2016) | Directed by David Ayer

After the campy and lighter tone of DC's comic book to film adaptaion of Batman: Forever (1995) and Batman and Robin (1997), DC Cinematic adventure seems to find its real tone. A darker and more serious type of movies. It all starts with Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy and followed by Zacks Snyder's benevolent re-telling of Superman's story Man of Steel, which eventually lead to created Warner Bros and DC own movie universe which now known as "DC Extended Universe".

Now DCEU return to give us a lighter, campy and more humorous than any of its previous films. The "Suicide Squad", Directed by a first time director David Ayer.  The movie is about a group of a different bad people which is known to be some infamous DC comicbook villains, forced to do a good thing by Amanda Waller played by Viola Davis on stopping a magical villain who wants to create some sort of machine to destroy the world,

A plot that seems to have a very low motivation to find itself. While other's superhero films are having trouble making a over crowded movie, Suicide Squad however finds a trouble connecting the pacing of it's story, rather than its characters. Most of it felt rushed, and sometimes felt numb. You know a film that's tries to be self aware but fails to do it ? this is it !

Unfortunately Suicide Squad also faces the same problem with Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice, It doesn't know what kind of film it really wants to be. Does it want to be ? light/campy ? or dark/campy? I don't know, maybe David Ayer can tell. The movie also shows the obvious bad direction by a newbie director, based on the editing itself.

Jared Letto's The Joker, is a very different type of a joker, for a comicbook reader you can't really tell he had worst kind of a Joker, because they're definitely used to have different kind of Jokers. However he only had few scences in the movie and his character doesn't seems to conect on what could be the real motivation of the whole movie and sometimes he is overacting some sort, but cannot be compare to previous Jokers in movies, while Will Smith is a surprise Deadshot and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn is good (My favorite is definely Jai Courtney's Captain Boomerang. because he doesn't try so hard.) and with that Joker and Harley relationship is like another "Natural Born Killer" quos but forced and rushed even if it relies flashbacks.

I can't deny the fact that despite of its obvious flaws I had fun watching it, but in a way of accepting what it is, but it doesn't change the fact that it's not a good movie. I like how they highlight all the characters, even the ones who didn't really last long. Humor wise is very bad for most of the times but mostly it works, and when it does it definitely looks to be a humor kind of DC needs to have on its film added by fantastic soundtracks which pretty gives the movie's intensity and sets it tone from the very begginning.

Overall i think Suicide Squad is enjoyable, and it kinda reminds of a Joel Schumacher film, but not a bad Joel Schumacher film. I wish DCEU can keep its heads up, It can be rough at the begginning but i hope they'll learn if they care about the fans.
